About Us

The Empathy Initiative is a group of like-minded academics and practitioners with a strong belief in the power and potential of empathy to change lives and improve the quality of care provided to patients/clients/residents. Our group shares a commitment to undertaking collaborative empathy research that has the capacity to transform education and practice.

Our purpose

The purpose of the Empathy Imperative is to work collaboratively to harness the power of empathy to transform healthcare education, practice and culture.

Our objectives

1. To generate a rigorous program of empathy and compassion research designed to improve healthcare outcomes, patient experiences and staff wellbeing.

2. To design, implement, evaluate and disseminate creative and evidence-based educational resources that enhance empathy and compassion in healthcare students and providers. 

3. To build capacity and enhance collaboration between researchers, educators and practitioners with a commitment to empathy education and research.
